The CTBC Painting Prize is dedicated to discovering and supporting artists aged 20–45 who engage with contemporary perspectives through painting. As Taiwan’s only corporate art prize focused on contemporary painting, it provides a platform for emerging artists and reflects the development of Taiwan’s contemporary art. This Lecture discussion explores the prize’s history, values, and observations on painting practices in Taiwan, asking: “What does the prize recognize?” Beyond technical innovation, the prize celebrates painting’s narrative potential and creative possibilities in contemporary contexts, fostering a sustainable art ecosystem through corporate collection and museum collaboration.
