Huang Chih-kai is the first graduate of department of drama and theatre from National Taiwan University. With more than a decade of writing and directing plays, Huang Chih-kai draws from local, young, contemporary Taiwanese culture and creates works with universal resonance. He is shrewd on the absurdity of life and good at uncovering comedy beneath tragedy. He sees everyday life from a curved mirror and uses stage as a kaleidoscope for form and function. He is acclaimed for the mise-en-scène and intricate plot design. Often, his characters are shown on the brink of breakdown to reveal the dilemma of life and its true values. He is also fond of a self-invented motto: make the world into what we wish it to be.
About Story Works
The Story Works was founded in December 31, 2013.
Since then, the theatre company has produced and presented 12 dramas: Don Quixote, The 3 Storytellers, The Unspoken, The Way of Zuangzi, As You Like It, The Voice Hunter, The Long Goodbye, Sakurako’s Choice, The Moon is Always Full, The Man, The Boy, and The Monkey King, The Beloved Godot and Goodbye to Music Halls. Dedicated to tell original stories from Taiwan, Story Works hopes to make world-class theatre that is inspiring, surprising, and challenging.
By making original dramas, Story Works also focuses on talent development in performing arts, training programs, crossover with literature, movie, pop music from Taiwan, and building an inclusive theatre culture that is speaking to the present moment.
